Learn to Play Keyboard – Two Elusive Secrets to Master the Keyboard

Just what does it take to really learn to play and master the keyboard? Is there a magic formula that will immediately transform the inexperienced keyboard wannabe into a music virtuoso?

Well, there isn’t a magic formula so to speak, but there are techniques that can virtually speed up the learning process and make it much easier even for the beginner.

Secret # 1: Chords

Most music teachers will have you learn to play piano or keyboard through a traditional training system that consists of music theory, music history etc. While this may work for some students, it isn’t the optimal way to learn and master the keyboard. Plus it is boring by the way!

By far the easiest way to learn and master keyboard is through the chord system. This system will show you how to visualize all the chords that exist in all music, how to learn them the right way and how to use them. Forget all the exercises that involve practicing scales. Instead a few exercises to learning the chords and their positions is sufficient to get a great grasp of music theory without all the boring stuff.

Secret #2: Apply the chord system to your favorite music

Once you learn the chords that exist in all music, you are ready to apply them to your favorite music. You can learn to play by ear, improvise, transpose, ad-lib, fill in and embellish any music to add a fuller sound. If you are playing just by reading notes, this is very difficult to do, however; with chords, it can be done on the fly and very easily once you know how it is done.

This allows you to take your music playing to a much higher level without a lot of extra work. You can learn the basic left hand styles such as blues, jazz, country, rock, gospel etc and transform any song into a different style simply by implementing a different left hand harmony. My chord system music teacher can play Amazing Grace 100 different ways by just changing the left hand style.

A little know fact is that most all professional musicians don’t use the traditional method of playing music (it is just too cumbersome), they rely on the chord system and just a lead sheet to allow them a wider range of styles and personal interpretation.

You can learn to play keyboard just like a professional if you learn the right way and the more fun way using a chord system.

Which is better – QWERTY phones, or keyboard-less phones?

Which is better – QWERTY phones, or keyboard-less phones?

It’s a debate that rages in the world of smartphones: which is best, a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, or one without a keyboard at all? Let’s take a look.

Keyboard – Nokia N97 and HTC Touch Pro2

After the triumphant launch of the Nokia 5800, which was only ever meant to be a mid-range phone, Nokia need a new top-ender to really wow the public. And that top-ender is the hyper-powered Nokia N97. It takes the brand new Symbian Touch interface, and adds in bags more power, as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. Even starting with the looks, it’s a truly stunning phone, with sleek surfaces and a minimalist design making the Nokia N97 truly a beautiful sight to behold. However, the impressive nature of the Nokia N97 doesn’t end with the exterior, as it’s what’s inside that really impresses. Equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, it effortlessly switches from phone to camera, letting you leave your separate camera at home.

Whilst the HTC Hero (see later) stands somewhat on its own, the HTC Touch Pro2 brings Windows Mobile to the party, and it really is a joy to use, and like an increasing number of modern touchscreen mobile phones, it’s optimised for touch controls. Or, in other words, you press the screen on the HTC Touch Pro2 with a finger, not a dibber (well, ok, a stylus, but dibber sounds better, to me). Specs-wise, it’s no slouch, either, with 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA, WiFi, built-in GPS and a frankly brilliant slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It truly is a gorgeous mobile phone, and I’ll be frank, it’s hard to think of any other Windows Mobile phone coming close to it.

No keyboard – HTC Hero and Toshiba TG01

Android is trying to take over the world, and its new home is the beautiful HTC Hero. It has all the good stuff that made the first Android phone (the G1) good, but puts it all in a touchscreen-only body, which is both sleek and sexy. Since the keyboard has been removed, the HTC Hero also has a full, onscreen keyboard, and a sumptuous new interface called Sense. You also get the Android Marketplace, which lets you download and install third party apps to your HTC Hero, and it ends up creating a smartphone that really can morph into whatever you want it to be. It really is a true Hero; it’s the HTC Hero.

So, the HTC Hero is the open source contender. And the HTC Touch Pro2 has the nicest keyboard. But finally, there’s a phone that really gives Windows Mobile the grunt it needs to run properly: the Toshiba TG01. In terms of outstanding new technologies, what the Toshiba TG01 brings to the party isn’t the 4.1 inch display (although that’s noteworthy in itself), but what’s inside it. The Toshiba TG01 uses a next-gen, dual-core Snapdragon processor, which runs at 1GHz, and that means the Toshiba TG01 is the most powerful phone in existence… which is good, because in terms of other features, a lot of other phones leave the Toshiba TG01 in the dust. So, which is better? Well, for data entry, you cannot beat a QWERTY keyboard. But for sheer looks, a phone without a keyboard is the way to go.

Electronic Keyboards: Pros And Cons

Electronic Keyboards: Pros and Cons
By Yoke Wong

Electronic keyboards. Some piano teachers swear by them; others, at them.

Certainly the electronic keyboard is different from the acoustic piano. But, overall, do their differences add up to a lesser, or a better, instrument?

Pros of an electronic keyboard, compared to an acoustic (wood and wire) piano:
• Generally, much less expensive.
The top-end electronic keyboards, like the Clavinova, are still quite expensive, however.

• Smaller, lighter, easier to store and move.
Again, some of the top-end keyboards are not exactly what you’d call “portable,” and certainly wouldn’t fit in a closet; but are still smaller and lighter than even upright pianos.

• Not as sensitive to environmental conditions.
You don’t have to be as picky about where you place it. Temperature, humidity, heating & cooling vents, outside walls… No need to be concerned about these when deciding where to put your electronic keyboard.

• Less expensive to own, going forward.
Does not need to be tuned, adjusted, or otherwise maintained by a technician on a regular basis.

• Less bothersome to people other than the pianist.
Can be played in “silent” mode, so as not to disturb the neighbors. (Usually, the player wears headphones to hear herself practice.)

• Versatile in the sounds it can produce.
Can reproduce the sound of a wide range of instruments, not just the piano. This can come in handy in an ensemble.

• Recordable.
The top-end keyboards can be programmed to “remember” a performance and replay it at the touch of a button. This can be helpful, for example, if you want to accompany yourself singing, but are not quite sure you’re ready to sing and play at the same time.

Why do some piano teachers consider electronic keyboards inferior to acoustic pianos?

Here are some of the Cons that make them say so:
• Lesser sound quality.
While the sound quality on high-end, modern machines is much improved from earlier efforts, it’s still an electronic tone. The richness, depth, and harmonic overtones produced by the acoustic piano’s physical wires vibrating cannot really be reproduced by electronic means.

• Less realistic “touch.”
This is the quality of the feedback the keys give to your fingers when you’re playing an acoustic piano. In an acoustic piano, there is in fact a direct mechanical linkage between your finger’s motion and the production of a note. It’s a subtle feeling, but a real one. Again, the electronic keyboards, while much improved, still cannot fully reproduce this experience.

Do these things really matter? To some piano teachers, they do. I know one piano teacher who insists that her students obtain a “real” piano for home practice, and won’t accept them as students if they plan to use an electronic one.

For many beginning students, the subtleties of tone and touch will be lost on them. And, for students who want to move on to contemporary music, such as a rock band, the electronic keyboard is quite well accepted in these genres. Later, if you end up performing in places where you don’t know if the venue will have a piano, or what condition or tuning it will be in, you might like to have a more movable instrument, so you can take it with you. You can’t exactly schlep an acoustic piano around in the back of your minivan.

On the other hand, if you really stick with your piano studies, eventually these issues of tone and touch will matter to you. When that happens, are you going to want to purchase a second instrument?

All of these issues need to be considered before you make your purchase. In the end, only you – in consultation with your own piano teacher – can decide which instrument to buy in order to reach your goals as a pianist.

Keyboard Damage And Laptop Keyboard Replacement

Keyboard Damage And Laptop Keyboard Replacement

Laptop keyboards are obviously an essential part of a laptop – it would be difficult to use the laptop without a keyboard. Yet laptop keyboards can malfunction. Whether this is because of crumbs dropped into the cracks from lunches taken on the go, or splashes of coffee from drinks hastily gulped between work, or letters missing or deformed from too hasty typing that caused fingernails to catch against the edge of the letter and pull it off, keyboards sometimes suffer as a result of their contact with the human race.

All this is without including dropping the laptop, treading on it – which has been known – and dropping something on it.

Laptop keyboards are functional and fairly resilient, but they are not designed to resist all these events, so it is not really surprising that under these conditions something goes wrong.

While no-one wants to damage their laptop, it is the case that all these things can happen, and it usually happens on the day you would least want it to.

Without the keyboard you are pretty limited what you can do with your laptop, so it is just as well that keyboard replacement is possible. Here at Laptop Power, we have keyboards for laptops to suit all makes of laptops. Even if you don’t think you are the most technically minded person, you can get advice and help from us about fitting your laptop keyboard replacement.

So if you know that you are amongst the many people who have committed one of the crimes against laptops listed above, you can allow yourself some relief in knowing that you do not have to go to the extreme of spending out on a whole new laptop because of accidental damage done to your keyboard. It can be replaced and your laptop brought back to full life again.

laptop keyboard doesn’t work

laptop keyboard doesn’t work

Just imagine when you tap the keyboard, nothing happens. There is no reaction. I can’t chat with my friend, write emails and play games. My laptop keyboard doesn’t work. Have you ever encountered this problem? What’s wrong with the keyboard?

Usually, there are two situations: only one or two keys gave up working, especially the ENTER key, that caused by your brutal tapping. Another one is that most of the keys can’t work. This phenomenon is often caused by the dirt block the circuit board or a conductive plastic, allowing the normal between the two can not connect. Other factors may also be, for example: keyboard plug is damaged, circuit problems, damaged motherboards, CPU not working properly, etc., but not the main reason. I have seen my brother handle his HP Presario 441427-001 Laptop Keyboard,  so here share with you all.
First of all, prepare clean and spacious place for your laptop. It’s really dedicated work to open the laptop keyboard. Put the keyboard side down, for the circuit on the other side is fragile. Then get off the circuit boards which are generally made of soft plastic film, the inscription button cable. Preferably with the 97% alcohol cotton gently scrub two times in the circuit board. You’d better be very careful and soft. Meanwhile, you should check the conductive plastic whether they are damaged or not. Suppose some conductive plastics are damaged, my advice is that you can replace it with some parts that don’t use so often. It’s better than getting a new one. Remove laptop keyboard in the inside corner of the dirt, tools available brush, small brush, etc., but note a number of actions to be gentle. Moreover, have a look of the weld or loose soldering, welding module, you can repair weld by using tools such as conductive silver paint, concrete repairs see the next section examples of laptop keyboard repair. So after the alcohol evaporates, you can use your laptop again.

This is just the case to my brother‘s laptop keyboard. so you should make sure you can handle this. Otherwise, you may ruin your keyboard.

The Importance of Hospital Keyboards and Washable Mouse

The Importance of Hospital Keyboards and Washable Mouse

The medical profession has undergone dramatic changes in the last decade. Computers and technology used to be the solely used by administrators but now, everybody, from doctors, nurses and even orderlies, regularly have to use computers equipment.

All this sharing of keyboards and computer mouse can cause problems. Computer keyboards and a computer mouse are transmitters of germs and bacteria. With so many different people using them, some eating at the desk or slopping coffee on the keyboard, it is no wonder that there are more germs on the average computer keyboard than on a toilet handle or seat.

And with the rise of hospital acquired infection over recent years, such as MRSA and C. Difficile, the spread of germs from computer equipment is a serious issue.

Hospital Keyboards

Hospital keyboards are designed to not only prevent bacteria build up, being built flush with no nooks and crannies for bugs to hide and spread; but also they are designed to be easily washable, allowing cleaning without the risk of damage to the keyboard.

As hospital keyboards can be regularly washed with soap, water and a host of cleaning products, including anti-bacterial detergents and alcohol’ this can greatly reduce the risk of infection spreading from user to user.

Medical Mouse

Similar to hospital keyboards a medical mouse is also washable. Computer mouse have the same problem as computer keyboards with germs able to get a foot hold in the gaps between the buttons, which is why a washable medical mouse is built without the gaps. They are also manufactured from the same bacteria resistant materials as a hospital keyboard and can be easily washed and wiped clean – even with alcohol.

You can even get washable wireless mouse enabling easier use – they can also be carried away by individuals allowing them to have their own mouse rather than share with different users and risk the spreading of pathogens.

What Are My Choices When It Comes To A Digital Keyboard?

What Are My Choices When It Comes To A Digital Keyboard?

Here are a few tips that you should be considering before you go out and buy your keyboard, as we know that when you have the huge choice of keyboards and digital pianos that is available today, it can seem a little overwhelming. Any trip to the local music shop or even a quick online search will show you the vast array of instruments in this niche available to you -but which one is right for your needs?

1)  Affordability. No matter how conservative your budget, it really shouldn’t be too difficult to find one that will fit. Set yourself a top level that you would pay and don’t go over that. Because the selection is so large, take the time to look around and get the best deal you can.

2)   Weighted action versus synth action. Weighted action simply means that the keys are heavier and therefore behave more like an acoustic piano. Synth action simply means that the keys are a little lighter.  Just a couple of the more technical terms you may come into contact with when buying your keyboard. The weight of the keys transmits to the style of play that you are buying the keyboard for: weighted action is great for the trained pianist or someone who is looking to develop their piano skills; synth action is more suited to those who play a more synthy or techno style, as the keys can be played a lot faster.

3) The number of keys. It can certainly seem that the choices you have when it comes to the number of keys can be almost as far-ranging as the choice of keyboards in the first place! The range goes from as little as 20 right up to 88. The choice is yours: if you are looking to use your keyboard for things like samples, then only a small range is needed and you only need a few keys. For the more experimental, for instance if you are looking to play around with sound development, then you want as many keys as possible.

4) Is it worth getting an onboard sequencer? A simple answer to a simple question here: if you are working with a computer, then yes it most definitely is. If you do not plan to work with a computer, then it probably won’t be necessary.

5) Do I need a workstation? This should be weighed against the fact that the workstation is an incredible tool to use. . The workstation on your keyboard will perform a myriad of functions, from sequencing to effects. . If you are already using a computer which handles all of that, paying extra for a workstation may not be the most economical vantage point.

6) Aftertouch and velocity features. Whatever you have in mind as the use of your keyboard, you should seriously look into the velocity and aftertouch features. Put simply, the velocity relates directly to the sound produced relative to the amount of the pressure applied to the keys, like how quickly they are pressed. The aftertouch, on the other hand, refers to the sound that is produced after the keys have been pressed, whilst they are resting on the keybed.

7) Can I take this to a gig? If one of the reasons you are buying the keyboard is to take it to gigs, then this should definitely be considered. You might want to think about a hard case to protect it, and obviously maneuverability is going to be a factor. It may seem obvious to say, but do you really want to be lugging some huge keyboard around from one gig to another?

When you take the time to find the best keyboard, one that will suit your needs and your goals, then you are much more likely to develop the long-term relationship with your instrument. Think about what is available online -this is often the best way to buy a new keyboard -with the added advantage that they will deliver straight to your door!

If yes, then install freshly the drivers of keyboard. If this does not works then try to remove the keyboard in DM, and reboot the notebook. Windows should re detect and reinstall software and hardware. Also make sure that keyboard plug is not loose or there is no bent connectors. am also facing this same problem of keyboard not working. After work got finished i closed my laptop and slept but forgot to shut down it. And when i woke-up in morning i saw laptop was On but the keyboard was not working. Can anyone tell what would have been cause for this???
First of all check keyboard connector if it is not loose and all the pins in connector are perfect and not bent. If this all is fine then would tell you to update the drivers of the keyboard. This can be done by following steps:
1: Right Click on My Computer
2: Click on Properties, then Device Manager will be opened
3: In Device Manager, you can see option named Keyboard, under
there would option to update driver.Click on that and update the
drivers
After doing this, restart the notebook and check whether is working or not, if not then try the System Restore method. Hope this would work for you.
